After my daughter was born prematurely and developed special needs, I started looking for local daycare facilities that might provide her with the support and stimulation she required in 1994. After failing to find adequate care in a nursery or childminder, I came to the conclusion that I could give my own child and other children the best care possible. In order to do this, I signed up to be a childminder for six kids under the age of eight. As the waiting list expanded, I made the decision to increase the care offered and began looking to create a reputable daycare centre. Over a year was spent looking for a suitable building in Morley. An abandoned portion of an old school housed the facility, and after many long nights and weekend efforts, a 24-space day nursery was approved in May 1998. It was time for Butterfly's to open. The second wing of Butterflys Day Nursery was approved in December 1998, increasing our capacity to 50 spaces. Due to a vehicle accident in November 1999, I was unable to work and had to hire a manager to run the nursery. With the existing administration and staff having an exceptional reputation, a genuine caring attitude, and a devotion to our children, this decision has led to a continuous improvement in the nursery. Parents and caregivers asked that their children be allowed to stay in our care after school hours as soon as our first babies reached school-age. In order to make this possible, we added a conservatory in July 2003 and increased our staff size to include twelve out-of-school spots. The club is known as Fireflys by the youngsters who attend it. On February 28, 2005, Butterflys debuted its purpose-built 84-space nursery in Selby, and on February 28, 2007, a third nursery in Hemsworth.
