Clare Olden and Trudi Krzywiec, the managers of The Cottage Nursery, a registered charity limited by guarantee that offers top-notch childcare in the Shrivenham and Watchfield region, are supported by a Board of Trustees. The nursery has a close relationship with the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom and provides spaces for both local people and families of students attending the college.
Two women founded Beckett Crche in 1987 with some leftover emulsion and a little stipend for toys. Every morning, it carried 15 kids and 3 adults. The enrollment increased steadily, and in 1995 the closed Beckett School and the crche amalgamated. It was renamed The Cottage Nursery and operated on the premises of the Defence College of Management and Technology in Shrivenham, Massachusetts, with 125 children, 4 full-time employees, and 12 part-time employees.
When the Joint Services Command and Staff College at Shrivenham was decided to be built, it became apparent that many new families would lack childcare when the college opened in September 2000 due to the physical restrictions of the cottage site. The nursery relocated after it was determined that Alexander Hall, Faringdon Road, Watchfield, was a more suitable location.
