Being the only school in Hampshire constructed of chalk cob makes the oldest portion of our structure potentially unique. Built in 1836 were the primary classroom and a two-room residential section. Grateley became a board school in 1873, and the size of the main classroom was doubled to what it is today. A corrugated-iron cloakroom and an additional, smaller addition were also made. Kitchens were constructed in 1923, and as student enrollment increased, temporary structures were eventually erected on the grounds. The oldest of these, a wooden cabin once used by the military, was in operation until 1993. Building a new classroom/hall, a servery, and a staff room, as well as redesigning the reception and office spaces, started in 1992 to replace the temporary wooden classroom. The entire site was re-landscaped in 1993, and additional play structures and study areas were built. All of these modifications combined to create a modern school that was also vibrant, dynamic, and in keeping with a Victorian-era structure. A new expansion was built in 2001 to replace the temporary classroom and outside restrooms, giving a classroom and safe play area for Key Stage 1, as well as a new library, computer suite, and indoor restrooms. In 2005, a brand-new school building with upgraded PE facilities and a kitchen for making school meals was finished. The school also includes a sizable playing field that is used for a variety of outdoor sports and activities. A new netball court and goal posts were constructed in 2006. On the playing field, a new restroom building and storage space were constructed in 2009.
