From the Hereward College of Further Education
Coventry is home to Hereward, a college for young people with special needs and impairments. We have been providing inclusive programming and specialised facilities for day learners and residential students with significant disabilities and learning challenges since 1971. Our goal is to equip our students with the best employable skills possible so they may go on to the next phase of their lives with greater control over their futures. Our goal is to develop independent people who are better capable of making their own choices regarding their lives, careers, education, and health. We have several collaborations with businesses, and our assisted internship study programme is growing. All of the abilities that the young people have acquired in college are expanded upon during the internships and applied to real-world workplace scenarios. The Hereward community places a high value on political involvement, and we urge our students to have a "voice" in the matters that concern them. Additionally, we support the Natspec and NUS campaigns that highlight the injustices that young people with learning disabilities or other disabilities must deal with. We are incredibly proud of the accomplishments of each and every one of our students as well as the incredibly committed and dedicated professionals that help them.
