From the New Cangle Community Primary School
The original Cangle school, which had been housed in a Victorian structure close to the town centre, was replaced by the New Cangle school when it first opened in 1989. This school used to be the only one in the community. The new school is located in a purpose-built structure created for today's primary curriculum, complete with roomy outdoor play areas and a special Early Years section. With the recent conversion of Suffolk's educational system from a three to a two tier structure, three modular classrooms have allowed the school to grow. At New Cangle, students now finish their primary education when they are 11 years old. The outside space has recently been expanded to incorporate a pond and wild life habitat, gardening tools, and additional outdoor classroom space. We are a partner school with the Faculty of Education at the University of Cambridge, and teaching students complete their internships with us. We are a member of the Suffolk Borders Alliance to improve the calibre of the education we offer the students. By pooling our resources and knowledge, we can give the students chances we might not have had otherwise and improve our staff training programme. Parents play an important role at New Cangle through the support they give their children with home learning but also through The Friends of New Cangle which is active in fundraising and putting on events for the children. The Parent Council also plans activities that allow families to interact and meet. Many of our guests praise the welcoming and loving environment as well as how well-behaved and involved the kids are. Why not come check us out for yourself?
