From the St James School
The community of St. James is vibrant, diverse, and proud.
We give children the chance to shine via exceptional instruction and creative practise, a thriving extracurricular programme, and a curriculum that inspires and challenges students beginning in year 7 and becomes more and more individualised as they go through the school.
We believe that students achieve excellent outcomes as a result of five years at a school where they are happy and engaged at all times; where they are challenged from day one and are consistently supported to be the best they can be. As a result, we are one of the highest performing schools in the area.
Despite this year's introduction of the new kind of GCSEs, which are 100% exams and are thought to be more demanding and challenging, St. James has earned their best-ever year of GCSE results.
The government's "Basics" benchmark measurement for a "strong pass" shows that 55% of children are graduating with a grade 9-5 in English and math, and 73% with a grade 9-4, which is considered a "standard" pass.
In English, 81% of students received a 4 or higher, and 67% received a 5, while in math, 82% of students received a 4 or higher, and 66% received a 5.
69% of children have at least five grade 9-4 "regular" passes, including English and Math, while 55% have at least five "strong" 9-5 passes, including English and Math.
This year, the school's acknowledged Ebacc success—which is a result of its academic and aspirational curricula—has increased even more.
A "strong" pass in the Ebacc qualification was earned by 36% of all students (those who earned grades 9-5 in English, Math, Science, Language, and Humanities GCSEs), and a "standard" pass was earned by 54% of all students (grades 9-4 in the same disciplines).
The Department for Education has requested that St. James become an MFL Hub due to the significant number of pupils who have applied for the Ebacc (73%) and the school's outstanding performance in French (32% 9-7, 64% 9-5, and 84% 9-4) among other factors (one of only nine hubs in the country).
