Crew Nightingale spent the morning at the AgeUK facility in Armthorpe on the first Thursday of the new semester.
Here are our thoughts on the trip and what we discovered about the value of senior centres in Doncaster and across the UK.
I discovered that Age UK centres are crucial for the elderly and those suffering from dementia since it may be the only place they can socialise and find some type of amusement, like playing games.
I believe Age UK to be a crucial organisation since they assist those who may not have a large family or none at all in overcoming their loneliness.
I've learned through my visit to Age UK today that it's vital for the elderly to have the chance to visit the centres for a variety of reasons, the primary one being so that they can have company, engage in conversation, meet new people, and form bonds with others.
It's wonderful to have the opportunity to leave the house and socialise with other people because the majority of older people live alone, which may be rather monotonous and lonely.
Overall, I believe that having Age UK locations throughout the UK is an excellent concept because visiting the locations even for a short period of time each week can make a difference in the lives of elderly individuals.
I discovered during my visit to the AgeUK centre today that the AgeUK centres are really beneficial for the elderly who struggle with many tasks because of their advanced age.
They can also benefit from AGEUK centres.
Each day they are there, provide them with a hot, cooked dinner.
When I asked one of the 98-year-old men at AgeUK what he used to do, he replied that he had been in the Royal Air Forces for five years during World War II, fighting in India. I spoke to four people today at AgeUK. The first two were men.
Everyone at AgeUK might not get anywhere else all week, so it's good for you to say something to them, even if it's in the street they may not have spoken to anyone else at all that day. Loneliness for an old person is the equivalent of smoking 15 cigarettes per day, so this will mean it affects you mentally.
I met Dora at the Age UK Center.
They need the Age UK centre so that they can socialise and have company if they live alone at home, like Dora.
I discovered that the Age UK Center's significance lies in its ability to assist older individuals, such as those suffering from dementia, in reducing their feelings of loneliness.
I discovered from Dora that being alone is depressing and causes her to feel really unhappy because she is unable to socialise with anyone at home.
Today's Nightingale crew visited the AgeUK facility in Armthorpe and spoke with various elderly individuals to learn more about their experiences.
One of our 20 ways to be XP required this in order to be completed.
Me and Kai were seated with three visitors to AgeUK to learn about their lives and to engage in casual conversation. This was done since loneliness is a major issue for senior citizens, and it is important that people are aware of this.
Learning about all the fascinating tales the elderly individuals were sharing with us was my favourite part of the day.
I went to the Age UK facility in Armthorpe today.
I met Harriette, an 80-year-old who visits Age UK twice weekly.
Harriette loves to leave the house and interact with people.
She resided in a Bawtry village before her husband passed away, where she got along well with everyone.
I've learned how crucial the company of the centres is for individuals who attend thanks to my visit to Age UK.
The Age UK centres give elderly individuals the opportunity to leave their homes and engage in social interactions. The elderly frequently live alone and have little company.
Ivy, the woman I spoke with, described how she now lives alone since her husband passed away.
Loneliness can affect the elderly as they have to spend their days at home in an empty house with no way of communication as they don't tend to use social media and it's unlikely they would be on the phone to someone all day.
Our crew visited the Armthorpe Age UK Center today.
We set out to finish one of the 20 ways to be an XP.
We discovered that the centres are utilised all across the UK to assist lonely senior citizens who lack social interaction.
The Age UK centres are very important to the elderly people as that might be the only place they can have a hot meal.
The centre mean a lot for the old people as they can provide comfort if the elderly are lonely.
I learnt that even people who have dementia and are elderly people can have fun, I played dominoes and the lady played with was extremely good at it.
I have learned even people with dementia Can still have fun and play games.
I never really understood the importance of Age UK until my visit to Armthorpe Community Centre, this is where I met Mable she showed me that Age UK is a big thing for her as she has nobody left, except for her dog Penny.
She frequents Age UK to interact with people and socialise.
Mable taught me that she used to be a hairdresser but also that she has never been abroad.
I never understood the importance age UK is to the elderly who go there.
This is until, I went to the Armthorpe centre.
Here, we were given the chance to meet some of the elderly who go there, and I met Mabel.
From these elderly people, we got an insight into what is Age UK meant to them and what an importance it is.
